Mid Autumn Festival – Part I

Some people may called them Mooncake festive cos around this time, chinese will be buying and eating lots of mooncake to symbolise the festival. Some people may also called them lantern festive cos around this time, chinese will be play with the lantern and candles to symbolise the festival. What the heck, the kwai low called them Mid Autumn Festival cos it is Autumn now???

Neway, this year the date falls on 6th October. I started bringing kiddos to walk around the neighbourhood and have yet to bump into any parents doing the same. It is a totally different feeling nowadays celebrating festival compare to my childhood days. I’ll rant about this other time.

Hope parents out there will continue this chinese tradition by letting your child experience what you’ve gone thru during your childhood days. Take this opportunity too to bond with your children and spouse after a hard day at work. Jessieling can do it, why can’t you 😉 ? Have a good day playing with the lantern and say hi to your mom for me :D.

Why does a women nag?

I feel that Simon and Caroline (FM105.7) love to argue on air all the time like a 15y/o children. Gosh, make them sound so babish, inmatured and unprofessional!

Yesterday it in the news headline that nagging is proven healthy. What they meant is a wife/women that nags on their smoker hubby finally gave up smoking. I think only a minority of smokers will listen to their wife. Man hates nagger. The more you nag, the more they wanted to do it. I used to and still nag on my boy friends whenever I see them smoke.

Jessie says: I’m blogging about nagging on smoker!!!
Jessie says: should read them
HuntingtheSnark says: *sticking tongue out* you ain’t married to me
HuntingtheSnark says: so you have no right to nag me
Jessie says: it’s for r own good
HuntingtheSnark says: *sigh
Jessie says: I’ll nag, nag, nag
Jessie says: if i don’t love you i won’t nag at you
Jessie says: nag, nag, nag
HuntingtheSnark says: maybe I should give you an orgasm just to keep you quiet
Jessie says: rofl

And this morning, Simon and Caroline (FM105.7 deejay) again brought out the topic about nagging. I nagged almost everyday at kiddos, “Stop watching TV and eat your rice”, “Do your homework”, “don’t do this, don’t do that”, “enough cheese for today!”. All this is everyday’s nagging. They need me to nagged or I won’t get anything done at all. If I don’t nag during dinner, I’ll be spoon-feeding them while they watched TV. And if I don’t nagged on the school homework, Princess is not bother at all about her homework. And mind you, Princess can eat 3 pieces of cheddar cheese at one go even right after dinner. Pokai lo like this.

I’m sure, women don’t nagged for no apparent reasons. For example hubby, when you least expect him to make that silly mistake and yet he did it. So I’ll go, “nag, nag, nag.” There’s a saying, “the log doesn’t burn by itself if you don’t start the fire.” Hey, I do get nagging from him on occasion and make sure I remember not to repeat the same mistake.

If my mom don’t nag at me, I won’t be who I am today. (psst… she nagged even more now as she grew older. *gosh!)

Conclusion, nagging is good and we should keep it that way. Wakaaakaaa….

——————-

Edit:  Depending on individual how you classified a reminder/talk as nagging.  We used to complain that my mom nags too much but she always protest, “Like this you called nag?  It’s a advise for you!”  So, it is really up to individual if you can accept a constant repeating of a same word as nagging or advise.  (You better agree with me or else I’m going to nag at you! :D)

Moon

Remember during the Hungry Ghost Month, the moon was so bright and round and you feel like howling like a wolf?

The moon looks like this,

Ok, I lied. This is a weird morning sun the day after. Wakakaa..

This is the moon.

Picture taken using Sony T-30 which was fixed on a telescope. Isn’t it beautiful?

I’ll promise to make an entry on the telescope if time persist. See, if you don’t have cable channel at home, jessieling.com can be your online Discovery Channel. 😀  Now get back to work!

Malaysia Hari Ini

Please e-mail me at siewjang(at)yahoo(dot)com if you need a translation in English Version. Happy National Day to all. 🙂

—————–

Adakah ini kita panggil back to the past? (sakit kepala la! Tak boleh fikir lagi dalam BM! Aduh)

Black & White Pepper

Have you seen a peppercorn tree before? Wanna see one?

This is a 6 year old tree.

Peppercorn closeup.

Unripe pepper

I used to think that black or white peppercorn is from different species of plants but I was wrong. They are from the same tree. It’s the process of making that produces black or white pepper. The riped corn looks like miniature tomatoes.

They have some kind of super smart machine or sorter that will sort out unripe and riped corn. The machines also sort out different sizes of corn, big or small which will determined the grade of the corn too. Of course the bigger the better. So you think the machine is smart huh.

.

This is how they produces black peppercorn. Unripe corn will left to dry under the blazing sun for ….. dunno how many days till it shrunk in size and turned black. If you look closely at the above pic, you will be able to see some shrink green corn.

.

.

.
The process of getting white peppercorn is by using riped corn. Firstly, they will have to removed the orange skin by squeezing the corn and wash them repeatedly in water till they turn white. And of course the final process is by drying them under the sun again.

Beware of cheap white pepper powder. During grinding process, they mixed with about 20% of rice powder in them. I’m not blowing cow (bullshit). I saw that with my own eye and ask why they are doing that. They claimed some traders or eateries want cheap pepper powder so that is the only way.

Spring in Malaysia

Was it spring now? I saw this species of tree is blooming everywhere.

Isn’t those beau.ti.ful? Pic taken at the playground opposit my house.

More close-up?

They looks like Morning Glory and this is definitely NOT sakura aka cherry blossom. This is how sakura looks like. I wonder what does they called.

Since I can’t resist the beauties of the blooming, decided to camwhore a bit. (I.Don’t.Cam.Whore!)

…. ala Bollywood style!

While we are shooting a Bollywood movie *cough*, flowers and dead leaves keep raining on us. Suddenly I feel like AUTUMN! Suddenly I feel like a child. Suddenly I hold out my hand and try to catch the fallen flowers!!! Suddenly my kids did the same too. Suddenly, so many ppl looking at us 🙄 😳  I added some fog to the above pic and it seems that the flowers doesn’t stand out.

This one is original.  No photoshopping at all.

……………….

And the next evening when we passed by the playground again, more flowers are blooming and more matured flowers drop to the ground.  Again, without hesitation, I grab my Olympus and snap.

Rooster Rice Bowl

Last weekend, I was back to hubby’s hometown in Pontian Kechil. It was a small town situated in Johore which is about 3.5 hours drive from the heart of Kuala Lumpur or 1 hour drive from Singapore. This quiet town has rows of wooden shoplots along the busy main road and I’ve never set foot in them before mainly cos they don’t look appealing from the outside and since I prefer to shop at Jaya Jusco, Tesco, Giant an air-conditioned place.

Since I’m on a mission this time to look for something… rather ancient, I think I’ve choose the right place to go.

“Do you sell rooster rice bowl here?”

“Ah, yes!”

Clad in only white netting singlet, sight of this fashion type of elderly man are seen at most chinese coffeeshop there. Take a look at his background. I wonder how he even managed to rumage thru his stuff or remember where he place those stuff. To me, they looks like a heap of rubbish with dust and spiderweb on them. He bent down under one of the shelf and pull this out.

雄鸡饭碗 – Rooster Rice Bowl

The original bowl is hand painted one by one. Hence, you may see that every rooster is different from each other.

Since the bowl was hand-moulded by man manually, the shape differ from each other and can’t be stacked neatly. I would called that an art!

The Flying Stripe (Jalur Gemilang!)

It is 3 weeks away before we celebrated our 49th independent day but I can’t wait to read the Wedding of the year which falls on the 21st.

The law granted that all commercial buildings are compulsory to fly the national flag. Failing which, one will be fined and jailed (geee… that’s a heavy price to pay) and we are just doing our part here in the office yesterday.

Flags aren’t expensive here. They are sold at about RM10 (US$2.70) only but over the years, we have faced several thieve stealing our flags. How silly can that be. This time round, we are smart enough and not tied them on the ground floor pillar.

This morning while driving to work on the highway, I saw a car with the miniature flag sticking onto it’s windscreen. As he is driving at quite a speed, the double-sided-tape gave way and the flags flew and hit my direction. Luckly it didn’t aimed at my windscreen but fell to the tarred road. I have no choice but to run it over if I do not want to create a massive accident on the highway. It sadden me a bit at the incident.

If my memory still serve me right, last year the government has called off and notices are given about the danger of displaying the miniature flag on the windscreen. It should be placed on the dashboard or the interior but not the exterior of the car.

Points to ponder: What is the meaning of Patriotism? It is not about displaying our National flag. Patriotism is about willing to stand first in line during war and willing to die for your country.

Hungry Ghost Month

Did you notice last night the moon in the sky is so round and bright? No doubt, it is the chinese lunar 7th month and it is the hungry ghost month where the gate in hell was open to freed the hungry ghost who will roam the …. earth (???) for food.

Childrens and pregnant women are regarded as “unsuitable” and advise to stay away from this prayer. If you also notice, on the 14th day of the 7th month , there are sweets or sweet foods, joss sticks and candles place at the road side for prayer. This is also deem as unsuitable for consumption.

Some believe that those who commited suicide during this month will became a very fierce ghost!

Here is a few tips to you if you are staying in a hotel. Every single hotel, there shall be at least a permanent room which should be left vacant at all times. No matter how full the hotel are, they are not to sell that room(s) to any guest. It was said that special room was “reserved” for those “special visitors”. So, if you plan to stay in some hotel, always book in advance. Try to avoid walk in. If the receptionist told you there’s no more room available, do not insist one anymore or try to bribe them to give you a room. If you do that, most of the time the room you have will be that “special room”. Sometimes those “special visitors” might go to other rooms also. So here’s some tips on how to protect yourself:

  1. Before entering your room, always knock on the door first, even you know the room is vacant. This is to tell them that you are coming in.
  2. After you enter the room, if you felt very cold suddenly and have “chicken spore”, leave the room quietly immediately and go to reception to request to change room. Most of the time the receptionist will understand what’s happening.
  3. After you enter the room, immediately switch on all of the lights, and open the curtain to let the sun light in.
  4. Before you go to bed, arrange your shoes so that one of them is upside down. Some say this is representing yin & yang to protect you while you’re asleep.
  5. Always leave at least a lamp on while you’re sleeping, preferably the toilet’s lamp.
  6. If you’re staying alone and they have give you a twin bed, do not sleep with the other bed vacant, try to put your things like luggage on the other bed before you sleep.

Most important thing, pray before you sleep!!!
