Malaysia International Fireworks Competition

The photographs that I’m posting is from Italy team who is competing on 25th August. All photographs here is in it’s original form except for the cropping unless specified by me.

First blurry pic…

Of course not so good la. Usually I will test out lighting and functions during the first few shots.

For starter, show you some small-small one first, ok?

Very unique fireworks, right? I vowed not to post something you usually saw during Chinese New Year.

Watch this… before bursting….

After bursting….

😎

The full paranomic…

That’s all for today. Stay tuned as more outrageous fireworks coming soon. Decided to squeeze all 15 pics in one post. Warning: 56k unfriendly ahead!

This is not original…

I merged 2 pictures together. The rest is untouched. I love the star. It is so unique. I wonder if they can made “I LOVE YOU”. That would be so cool!

or… or… “Will You Marry ME?” Wah lao! So romantic can die lidat.

Again, 3D Star. Nice eh?

That’s all from the Italy team. Please note that the fireworks start at 10.00pm on scheduled night and last for about 20 minutes. Go early to get a good spot by the curb side if you do not want to pay the entrance fee. And I mean REAL early like 7 or 8pm. However, you can picnic there while waiting for dawn.

Japan team is competing tomorrow on Merdeka eve. I was told that the fireworks will start at 12am. Subsequent schedules are as follow:

31st August – Global Team
1st September – Global Team
2nd September (Grand Finale) – Global/Pyrofest Canada

I would say, this is Welcome to Malaysia in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2007. Everyone did a good show by putting up such a beautiful and magnificent fireworks.

The Priceless moment!!!!!

My mom asked me, “So, what is the prize for the winner?”

“Good question Ma, I would like to know too”.

Have you Done your August Chores?

I admit that I’m not a patriotic type of person but I have nothing against my country. I love my country as how it is. I don’t care who wins during elections as long as we live in peace and no war please!

If you want to voice out your opinion, choose a right channel. We live in a multi racial country. We have Chinese, Malay, Indian dan lain-lain (etc), not forgetting other races from Sabah & Sarawak like Kadazan, etc, etc…

Never, never criticize other religions and make fun of your own national anthem regardless where it’s origin came from. It is our national anthem after all.

So, have you done your August chores?  What August chores?  Flying our national flag, Dude!
Selamat Menyambut Hari Kemerdekaan ke 50. Saya Anti Rasuah Anak Malaysia. (Happy 50th National Day)

p/s: Read the sarcasms on my lips when I say the word “chores!”

Jessie is Requesting the Korean Hostages be Freed. Will you?

“I thought you would like to know about this urgent campaign to free the remaining South Korean aid workers who have been taken hostage by Taliban fighters in Afghanistan. The Taliban have already executed 2 hostages and are threatening to execute the rest this week, an action that could trigger a mass evacuation of life-giving humanitarian aid from all of Afghanistan.

The situation is desperate, but there is hope. The Taliban are all from the ‘Pashtun’ ethnic group, and observe a strict code called Pashtunwali. This code demands, above all else: “hospitality to all, especially guests and strangers”. There are rumours of infighting among the Taliban over these kidnappings, because they clearly violate the code.

A global outcry for the Taliban to follow their own code would certainly be covered by media in Afghanistan and Pakistan where the Taliban are based – creating massive local pressure on them to free their prisoners. But these hostages are living under a 24 hour death sentence. We have seconds not minutes to act. Please take a moment now to sign the petition and forward it to your friends and acquaintances! The more people sign, the more powerful a message we will be able to send.”

When you are famous…

… every Tom, Dick and Harry will claimed that they know you. Even if they can’t recalled seeing you, most important thing is you know them. Ngam mou? (correct or not)

If you remember a while ago, our former Ms Malaysia aka ex-Mrs KRU was on the front page because of some scandal thingy with Engku Emran. Ahem! That Engku Emran used to be my ex-school mate. Really wan. No bluff you wan. During school days, he is a hottie among girls and ahem… changing partner like changing clothes. Enough about his scandal. So I was like so proud lidat when someone I know is now a famous celebrity or rather the CEO of Suria FM. You may think I am boasting but nevermind la. The title tells it all.

Got one more famous people. If you are in food industry, you might heard of Chef Raymond Siek. I’ve blogged about him sometime last year when I visited him at The Datai, Langkawi. Few days back, he did an ice carving for charity some where in Langkawi shopping mall.

Thought wanna share with you guys his achievement and to show off a bit la.

I was amazed by his talent and creativity. It is not easy to have the ability to carving an ice block. During our childhood days, we used to be the notorious type. Never serious in our studies. And today… we are much an achiever. (*ahem).

Beside the ice carving, they entered the Guinness World Record for making the longest roti jala measuring 500meters.

errr… roti jala only wat. Where’s the curry chicken? I want the biggest pot of curry chicken!!!!

There is something about man in white. Not sure if it’s just me, but I find them very………………. (please filled in your own words)

Ok. Enough publicity of him. So, Sitiawanese sekalian, come and make some woof whistle. I’m sure you know him 😉

Choy Sun Tou

Choy Sun Tou – The Prosperity God is here

This morning, I received a snail mail. Woot! It just slip off my mind that the mail is coming in this week. I knew right away the mail is from Leah.

So I quickly rip tear off the envelope and pull out another small red envelope.

Huh? Is she playing a prank on me? Choy Sun is Prosperity God wor and it is not even Chinese New Year.

Then I turn the envelope over…

I’m not seeing things kua. This is memang angpow packet.

Then I digged further into the bigger envelope and pull out another angpow packet….

It spelled as L.E.T.T.U.C.E. Suddenly it rings my bell. Lettuce! The vege and I over look on Choy Sum and not choy sun.

Now all my bells started to ring. Ding, ding, ding. Last week, I’ve requested some seeds from her and without hesitation she complied to my request. That is so thoughtful of her. Thank you so very much!

Looks like this weekend I have a new project to do. A quick trip to Tesco for rectangular flower pots and organic soil. I’ll let you know what type of fertiliser I’m using in my next post 😉

Happy Duan Wu Jie aka Dumpling Festival

How do you like your zongzi aka dumpling to be?

I love mine with lots of chinese mushroom, salted egg and very very fat pork belly and a bit of the mung beans (shelless green beans). There is also plain zongzi or the hockkien called it kijang, made only with glutinous rice + alkaline water and to be eaten with kaya, honey or sugar (*drooling*).

Last year, I wrote a super duper long entry on the folklore as how the festival came by.

Making zongzi is a difficult proposition. Even experienced Chinese cooks find it a challenge to manipulate the bamboo leaves into a funnel shape and place the rice inside. But if you want to try, here are a recipe to help you celebrate this truly unique event.

Ingredients:

Long glutinous rice
Pork Belly
Dried mushrooms
Salted egg yolks
Sugar
Soy sauce
Chinese five-spice
Salt
Borad Bamboo Leaves
String

Direction:

Wash sticky (glutinous) rice and soak for three hours. Chop pork into 4cm long and 2cm wide strips. Soak mushrooms until tender, remove stems and cut into strips. Mix soy sauce, Chinese five-spice, salt, and sugar. Let pieces of pork and mushrooms soak in above mixture for two hours. Cut salted egg yolks in halves or leave them whole whichever you prefered.

Thoroughly clean, soaked and softened bamboo leaves and string. Shape two long bamboo leaves into a funnel shape using one third of the length of the leaves. Fill the funnel half with rice and half with pieces of pork, mushroom, and egg yolk. Cover the “funnel” with additional rice, and then wrap the mixture tightly with the remaining portion of the leaves. Tie string around zong zi and cook in a covered steamer over medium heat for two hours.

Please note that making zongzi takes a great deal of patience and free time.

How to Sooth midnight coughing

I have been coughing very very badly since last Friday and still coughing badly today! The antibiotic and cough syrup that the GP prescribed doesn’t help bits. I can live with coughing during daytime but come night time, it was a nightmare. If you’ve been thru it, you will know what I meant. Especially parents with little children at home, these little ones will cough so badly that they puke all over the bed. It’s a tedious job to clean up pukes and not to mention the S.M.E.L.L! And we are talking about all this that happen in the middle of the night. No joke.

Few weeks back, I received a forwarded e-mail. It sounded like this.

To stop night time coughing in a child (or adult as we found out personally), put Vicks Vaporub generously on the bottom of the feet at bedtime then cover with socks. Even persistent, heavy, deep coughing will stop in about 5 minutes and stay stopped for many, many hours of relief. Works 100% of the time and is more effective in children than even very strong prescription cough medicines. In addition it is extremely soothing and comforting and they will sleep soundly.

The head of the Canada Research Council described these findings on the part of their scientists when they were investigating the effectiveness and usage of prescription cough medicines in children as compared to alternative therapies like acupressure.

And of course I tried them to see they really works. It is a common practise to rub Vicks on chest and back but bottom of the feet? Let’s see….

Day 1 – Applied. Wear socks. Slept till morning.

Day 2 – Applied chinese medicated oil. Wear socks. Midnight coughing. Applied Vicks. Slept till morning.

Day 3 – Applied. Wear socks. Slept till morning.

Day 4 – Applied. Wear socks. Slept till morning.

Day 5 – Lazy to apply. Midnight coughing. Cough so badly. Applied Vicks. Slept till morning.

So it is proven E.F.F.E.C.T.I.V.E!

I badly wanted to do it too during day time, but wearing a socks in the office??? You must be kidding me.

This post is NOT sponsored by PPP *ngek

p/s:  The above action will sooth your coughing but won’t cure them.  Heck!
